Senior Pro Rodeo Official Website http://seniorrodeo.net Senior Pro Rodeo News & Events Mon, 19 Mar 2018 21:59:38 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=4.8.5 Team Roping Pick and Draw Format http://seniorrodeo.net/team-roping-pick-and-draw-format/ Fri, 12 Jan 2018 22:46:23 +0000 http://seniorrodeo.net/?p=2215 It has been decided to use a pick one/draw one format for the team roping beginning this year. Here is some basic information, but if you have questions or comments, please contact our team roping director, Mike Brewer, at 530-519-2587, or Susi at the National Office 928-684-9566.

  • There will be separate pick one / draw one for the 40-59 age category and the 60+ age category.
  • Fees will be $100 per man (for both runs) plus the NSPRA fee and stock charges
  • There will be no drop down in the team roping. A 60 team cannot drop down and rope in the 40-59 age category; however,
    • Rule 12.2.1.4 is still in place – a 60+ team roper can designate his points to accrue in the 40-59 age category and could win a world championship in the lower age category, as long as his partner is age appropriate and an Event Age Category Designation for Points form is signed and received by the National Office before the first rodeo is entered. (You cannot enter both age categories at the same rodeo)
  • A pick team cannot draw up together in the draw pot.
  • Points will be given for the pick team only.
  • You cannot draw both partners.

2018 Rule Book http://seniorrodeo.net/2018-rule-book/ http://seniorrodeo.net/2018-rule-book/#comments Tue, 05 Dec 2017 20:29:22 +0000 http://seniorrodeo.net/?p=2178 The 2018 rule book has been uploaded to the website!  Please take a minute to look through it.  All 2018 changes are in red!  Here are some new rules I want you to be aware of but they are NOT all of the new rules!

  • To be qualify for the SNFR, contestants must compete at 5 NSPRA sanctioned rodeos. To be eligible to win a world title in the timed events, contestants must compete at 10 NSPRA rodeos and to win a world title in the rough stock events, contestants must compete in 7 NSPRA rodeos.
  • If the ground is deemed unacceptable by the event director and/or the judges at any rodeo, contestants will have the option of competing or drawing out. If they choose to draw out, they will still be liable for the $20 office charge but the rodeo will count towards the necessary rodeos to qualify for the finals.
  • At multiple rodeos in one location, if there are no qualified times, or scores, in an event, the ground money will roll over to the next day’s rodeo in that event. If at the end of the last rodeo in that location there is still ground money unearned, those funds will go into that event’s added money at the finals.
  • To haze in the steer wrestling, you must be at least 40 years old and hold either a NSPRA active membership or a working card.
  • Age groups is the TD and RR have been restructured to be the same as the team roping. Age Groups for all events are as follows:
    • Bareback, Saddle Bronc, Bull Riding and Steer Wrestling: 40-49 and 50+. The money is together in one pot; but the points are separated by age category.
    • Ladies Barrel Race: 40-49, 50-59 and 60+. Competition is in a 3D format. Points are separated by individual age category. Contestants may run two horses, first horse in the random draw shall be their point horse.
    • Breakaway (Mens and Ladies): Men’s age requirement is 65+; Ladies is 40+.
    • Tie Down Roping: 40-59, 60-67, 68+. 68+ age category is handicapped.
    • Ribbon Roping: 40-59 and 60+
    • Team Roping: 40-59 and 60+. Same as last year, except the 40-59 age category may rope twice with the same partner. First run in the random draw will be the points run.

There were also a couple of Policies and Procedures added for 2018!

  • Any one entered in a rodeo that is cancelled, may count that rodeo as one of their 5 qualifying rodeos, subject to paying the $20 NSPRA Office Charge.
  • Any contestant entered in an event where they are the only contestant entered in that event when the books closed and there cannot compete may count that rodeo as one of their qualifying rodeos, subject to paying the $20 office charge. The policy only applies to the specific event and will not let the contestant draw out of any other events with more than one contestant, unless they use one of their releases.

Proposed Rule Changes http://seniorrodeo.net/proposed-rule-changes/ http://seniorrodeo.net/proposed-rule-changes/#comments Sun, 20 Aug 2017 18:14:25 +0000 http://seniorrodeo.net/?p=2013 The following rule proposals will be reviewed and acted on by the Board of Directors at their meeting to be held October 2, 2017 in Panguitch, Utah. All or part of the proposed rules MAY be incorporated into the 2018 Rule Book.

  •  NSPRA shall only “co-approve” an equal number of rodeos with CSPRA as CSPRA “co-approves” with NSPRA
  • Bring back Section 8, adjusted points throughout the year will be carried into the finals and combined with any adjusted finals points to determine world champions. I propose to pick your region at the time you pay your membership dues.
  • Any board member or event director who resigns before the end of their term will not be eligible to serve on the board of directors for 3 years.
  • Do not co-sanction or co-approve any rodeos held the same time as a NSPRA sanctioned rodeo.
  • First run on all cattle must be completed before any second run can be drawn.
  • No drop down at the finals.
  • Change 9.4.1 (pg 24). A $20 office charge per contestant will be assessed as follows: $1 judges fee, $.50 secretary fee, $4 to Gen Fund, $6 Central Entry Fee, $2,50 Association Fee, and $5 Awards Fee
  • At a rodeo over a few days, if no times are made, the money from that rodeo rolls over to the next day’s rodeo purse. At the end of the rodeo series, if no times are made, the money rolls over to that year’s finals.
  • If the ground is deemed unacceptable by the event director and/or judges, the contestant will have the option to compete or to draw out. If they draw out they are still liable for their $20 office and the rodeo will count for the finals.
  • Hazer must be at least 40 years old AND hold an active membership in the NSPRA.
  • Policy and Procedures (modify) #27.  Any contestant entered in a rodeo that is cancelled can count that rodeo as one of their five qualifying rodeos, subject to paying the NSPRA fee.
  • Policy and Procedures (New) #28.  Any contestant entered in an event where they are the only contestant entered in that event when the books close and therefore cannot compete per Rule 15.6.4 may count that rodeo as one of their five qualifying rodeos, subject to paying the NSPRA fee for that rodeo. This policy only applies to the specific event and does not allow contestant to draw out of any other events with at least one other contestant.

From the Board – June 1, 2017 http://seniorrodeo.net/from-the-board-june-1-2017/ Wed, 31 May 2017 17:44:15 +0000 http://seniorrodeo.net/?p=1729 Montana here we come!

I love all the NSPRA locations but am partial to this run because it is hometown for me. We are so pleased to have Augusta on board again, this is my favorite Montana Timed Event (TE). Kent Mosher and his crew will be working hard at giving us a great weekend where the local merchants all seem to go the extra mile for the NSPRA. From there, we go to the small town of Darby, where Loyd Rennaker produces 3 TEs at the beautiful new revamped rodeo grounds. Every year it is exciting to see what has been added. Finally, we end up in Twin Bridges for the last two TEs  where the rodeo grounds are next to the river, a perfect place to wind down before heading to New Mexico.

Some important reminders: August 1st is the deadline for ballots, nominations and submission of rule changes. This is the time to add in your two cents!  Please take a moment to get involved. As a member, your input is very valuable, extremely necessary and greatly appreciated. If you have any questions please feel free to call Susi in the office.

A final note… I will continue my efforts to encourage everyone to reach out to their sponsor resources, which are an essential part of every rodeo association. There is no contribution too small. Our Directors take on a large responsibility that enables contestants to compete for prize money and memorable awards at our Finals. With a united effort, SNFR is able to provide our contestants, family and fans with a great show.

Saddle up, check your cinch and stay blessed, see you down the road!

Your NSPRA Friend,

Elaine Lewis.

From the Board May 15, 2017 http://seniorrodeo.net/from-the-board-may-15-2017/ Fri, 12 May 2017 18:30:52 +0000 http://seniorrodeo.net/?p=1692  I hope this finds everyone anxious to rodeo in Panguitch, Utah! With two Timed Events and two full Rodeos Lance and Jessica Miller are working hard at meeting our needs for producing a great weekend. I challenge all NSPRA members to pack up your favorite outdoor games and the ponies, let’s rally in Panguich!

Challenge number 2… Sponsors! Sponsors! Sponsors! Event Directors always appreciate members helping broaden the spectrum of opportunities in gathering sponsors.
Strength in numbers takes the pressure off of one individual, so let’s all pitch in to help build this season into one of our finest yet.

I would like to remind everyone to keep checking our website for updates and information. Annette O’Leary has given us a spectacular new user friendly website. Thank you Annette!

In bringing this article to a close, I would like to let everyone know that our fellow members injured in March are all doing well. For those curious about the Dale and Chuck team… we shall see the two again in Panguitch. #bubblesuit#helmet#duckncover!

Saddle up, check your cinch and stay blessed, see you down the road! Your NSPRA Friend,
Elaine Lewis
